Beach Date

It’s so funny. On our way to Hawaii, we were wandering around on a short layover in San Fran (my favorite airport, by the way – the food!! so good!!), and we kept looking at each other with these wide, jazz-hands eyes, like we’d just pulled the biggest prank of all time. We left home! Without kids! Look, we’re holding hands, like a couple! And eating at a table for two – not six! I even went as far, in my head, to wonder if people might think we were newly weds… Ha ha ha. I know, I know, but I was heady with this Can you believe we’re actually doing this?? AND GETTING AWAY WITH IT?? euphoria, so it stretched reality a skosh. By the first afternoon, though, we’d completely adjusted to our new, brief life as a party of two. So, coming home was a bit of a shock.

But I’m getting ahead of myself. In this post, I’m stillll in Hawaii… I just spent a luxurious day lounging in a Cabana by the ocean, next to my handsome Honey, ordering frozen smoothies from a cheerful cabana gal, like ya read about, and only popping up and out for a leisurely walk to lunch and dinner (Bistro grill? Italian? Japanese? Mexi?), and then sauntering back, and settling in to watch the heavenly sunset. I meannnn, we did our trip right.

Here’s the thing. A swim cover-up that can double as a decent look for a lunch/dinner date is key in a massive, sprawling resort. We literally had to walk a mile to our room, so I made sure I didn’t need to go back, like, all day. A small tote, swimsuit, off-shoulder coverup (I just removed the strap of my swimsuit from yesterday’s post, and kept it on underneath), and espadrille sandals did the magic trick of making me not feel like a soggy beach rat when dining out with my guy. I shopped mainly off-shoulder beachy dresses, below, not only because they’re so cute, and of-the-moment right now, but because they’re so eeeeasy to pull on and off, while at the beach or pool. They also have a looser fit, so as not to show awkward wet spots from your swimsuit, if not totally dry, when heading out. Can you say winning! I also shopped some other fun styles, as well as some super cute espadrille sandals.

Oh, yeah. That cookie was as big as my head, and I ordered, and devoured, two of them – in their entirety – during our stay. The staff was slightly agog.

Why, thank you, my fair friend! 😉 I wrote a post about embracing my skin color a while back ( http://www.theycallhersmith.com/oui-oui-oui-all-the-way-home/ ), that you might be able to relate to? It’s so liberating to deliberately change our perspective on what is deemed beautiful – especially when it comes to ourselves… no? :) Thanks so much for reading, and for your kind words! xx -Carrie
