Margaret’s Lookbook

November 19th, 2016

Hi, Margaret! So, while shopping for blouses, I got inspired for holiday. Threw a couple of easy looks together to lend some inspiration! You mentioned you were scared to wear the otk boots, so I put together a simple look to pair them. Let the collar stand upright, and push the sleeves of the dress up a bit to let the ruffle peek out. Add a brooch or two on the neck of the dress, maybe a moto jacket and a red lip, and you can step into the holiday spirit without even trying. Also, loving the idea of a party, shimmery blouse with a velvet blazer for an easy holiday look. Pair with some skinny jeans or pants, and a sleek heel, sparkle clutch, and you’re ready to go! I shopped a few other party blouses I’m loving in the slider below, and I’m also loving this velvet blazer by Zara.

Work + Play Looks for Fall/Winter

Hi, Margaret! Here are a few revised looks, and some brand-spankin’ new ones. Looks 1 + 2 and 3 + 4 are meant to be new skirt and pant options for you to replace the very first look (which had the knit skirt and bow blouse). Keep scrolling for revisions, and new look additions – the ones with an “*” are looks that were not changed. I also shopped several great ivory turtleneck sweater options (an absolute wardrobe must!), but I wasn’t sure where you were at with denim, so I held off, but let me know if you need more jean options – happy to shop!

This J.Crew skirt could be a total workhorse for you – loving the 70s buttons/silhouette, too! I paired it with a cotton bow blouse (a slight twist to a flowy bow blouse), and a long, cozy cardi. I added different shoe options, so this look could take you to many different scenarios with a quick change of shoe or jacket (love the pale blue topper for extra warmth). I also added a more laid-back approach to the skirt with the stripe sweater/jean jacket combo. The silk scarf can be tied either around your neck, or knotted around a handle of your bag for a little pop of color/pattern. Also, I don’t think I’ve introduced you to Gorjois jewelry, yet (hand to forehead!) – a very good friend of mine hand-makes all her pieces, and I absolutely love every, single piece I have from her. I added two pairs of earrings from her in these looks. I only linked the things you don’t have, above (wasn’t sure if you have the blue Zara coat?).

Looks 3 + 4

Love the idea of a feminine cami, paired with menswear-inspired pants (I also linked another pair by J.Crew). An easy look to transition from work, to a casual evening out.

Very classic, great dress for fall/winter – the bell/ruffle sleeve keeps it on-trend and sweet. Don’t be afraid to layer – loving the turtleneck with the scallop detail (feminine details like this are very now, and are proving to be big for SS17, too). And it’s totally ok to mix navy with black (black bag with navy dress)! All the cool kids are doing it;)

(Ivory Sneakers + Rust Loafer + (Loafer Slide is currently sold out right now) + Wine Sneakers)

Cute, classic, preppy-fresh, casual looks with lots of casual shoe options – literally every single shoe will go with either look. The varsity jacket from Gap is currently sold out, but it’s so new, I bet it will come back in stock. I also linked a varsity cardi from J.Crew that will achieve the same look, and you could pair it with this camel overcoat from Zara.

Cropped is the pant/jean length of the season, and I found you a great, versatile option, right here from J.Crew. You can tie the scarf in a bow, or just knot and brooch it – just play with it, as your mood suits.:) Love the clean, layered, polished look for a casual play day, but just add a heel, or black boots, or loafers, and you have a great look for work, too! I’m pretty sure you already have a moto jacket and white button-down shirt, so I didn’t shop/link them (just pictured), but if you’d like some options, just let me know!

Look 9

(Loft DressZara Boots + Blue Zara Coat + Gorjois “Nora” Earrings)

Re-shopped the lace dress look, and went with a more substantial texture. You could easily substitute your green Zara romper in with this look, and maybe add the white bow blouse, and your black moto jacket for some fun layering (just roll/cuff your white shirt sleeves). You can play with your brooch – pin on the neck of your turtleneck, either dress, or on your coat!

Looks 12 + 13

Loooo-ooove this blue dress. So pretty on its own, but easy to layer for some versatility, too (plus, you will get massive mileage out of it for spring/summer – this powder-blue hue, and bell sleeves are majorly trending for SS17). It JUST sold out, but you can wait-list – should come back in stock, as it’s fairly new! Here is a similar blue dress you could try. I added the funnel-neck coat for fun, but you could also wear your navy varsity jacket (with sleeves pushed up), or a navy pea coat, or any overcoat, really. Let me know if you’d like to see more coat options – there are zillions to choose from!

I love that you bought this dress!! So many ways to wear it – I pulled an easy, casual look look with the camel cardi, but you could take it up about 10 levels with that Zara fur coat!! So fun.

As promised, here are some great ivory turtleneck options (a fall/winter wardrobe must!).

Hi, Margaret! Unfortunately, all of the things you asked me about were either sold out, or no longer available, but I shopped some very similar items for you in the slider, below (just arrow over to view more, and click on any image to view/purchase at the retailer):

My Madewell “Octavia” sandals no longer come in burgundy (I purchased them last fall), but I included their studded, tan version (love!), and their black ones, and found some at Barneys in the “It Girl” material of the season: Velllvettttt….;) The denim dress you asked about is from Charlotte Russe (of all places!!) – it was on sale for $12, so I hadta (love its 70s vibes). It’s sold out, but I shopped a very similar one for you in the slider, too. My J.Crew “Point Sur” black, high rise jeans are also no longer available in black (also bought last fall), but I included their denim blue version, and shopped a couple of others. (I actually didn’t like the hem on me, so I cut them myself to jump on the uneven/raw-hem trend, and I love ’em.)

I’ll get started on some fall looks/options for ya, soon!
