Pinstripes + High-Tops

I’ve been a longtime Converse fan, but it wasn’t until recently that I did a little wikipedia research on the company. It was an interesting read! It was founded in 1908, originally manufacturing sporty shoes for tennis, but I found this to be the most intriguing: “The company’s main turning point came in 1917 when the Converse All-Star basketball shoe was introduced. Then in 1921, a basketball player named Charles H. “Chuck” Taylor walked into Converse complaining of sore feet. Converse gave him a job: he worked as a salesman and ambassador, promoting the shoes around the United States, and in 1932 Taylor’s signature was added to the All Star patch on the classic, high-topped sneakers. He continued this work until shortly before his death in 1969.”

How neat is that? I had no idea about the story behind “Chuck Taylors,” and feel more connected to my own new pair of this exact shoe model, now – especially since basketball was one of my favorite sports to play in high school. Feelin’ a little sentimental about these kicks….

Converse is such a great, all-American, iconic brand, and despite its struggles over the decades, it still remains relevant and on-point, today. Not many brands can boast that.

I tip my hat.
