SMP + Lover.ly: Dream Day Style Challenge

The Perfect Dress + Accessories

To date, my wedding day is the absolute best day I have ever experienced. The weather called for a 90% chance of rain – there was not a cloud in the sky. I had a dance party on my front porch with all of my bridesmaids and my dog at 10am. Three little girls in white tutus and flower head pieces lined our aisle with rose petals. At the end of the day, I was in the arms of my wonderful husband, whom I love even more today. No exaggeration at all; this was an amazing day.

As lovely as it was, I’m still a girl about town Pinterest. I see the bridal gowns from Carolina Herrera, Oscar De La Renta, and the exquisite creations on BHLDN’s site. So when Lover.ly asked us to participate in their Dream Day Style Challenge, we all jumped at the chance to shop for “THE DRESS” all over again, and delightedly discovered that Lover.ly offers all of these things, and so much more on their site! It’s truly an amazing resource for wedding inspiration (it has its own Pinterest-level style gallery), planning (it has a handy “hire” list of local and national vendors), and shopping (from bridal-party wear, to stationary, you can literally shop anything and everything – including the perfect dress); it’s literally a one-stop shop, and by farrr the best we’ve seen. We all wholeheartedly agree that we wish we had Lover.ly when we were planning our own weddings!!

On to the Lover.ly style challenge! I’m a city girl now, so my perfect day today is a far cry from my rustic-chic, outdoor wedding of yesteryear. This time, I chose a golden-sunkissed rooftop, lined with elegant flatware, white peonies, and stilettos – not wedges. Here is the photo Lover.ly gave us to influence our style picks:

Is renewing your vows on your two year anniversary acceptable? Because I think I just bought myself another wedding gown. Hey, Ryan Hoover, here comes round two!

City Chic Soiree

The cosmopolitan bride is fashion-forward, yet elegant. So, this beaded and tulle delicacy will grace a glass-fenced rooftop with 360 degree views, and will float and catch the breeze in the most perfect way. The finishing touches lie in the details – my favorite part! Sparkling, emerald drops are striking, and smart – the only way a modern bride knows how to be. Have a sweet friend hang on to the silk bolero to keep the chill off your shoulders. And that Prada jewel-encrusted clutch? I meannnnn, do we even have to talk about it? “Something blue” needs a new hue. That caged Jimmy Choo stiletto will sparkle, even as the sunlight fades into a starry skyline…. and this bride will still be glowing.

Ahh, you have this perfect, amazing dress, and a stunning rooftop to celebrate your nuptials! Now, what to wear with all this amazingness? I gotcha covered.

City Glam Wedding Look

City Glam Wedding Look by style-me-perfect

So, for this “city glam” wedding look, I chose a high chignon to show off your gorge, glowing face, and those to-die-for, emerald, drop-earrings! To me, this classic up-do is perfect for a rooftop wedding because along with stunning, open-air views, also comes the likely potential of wiiiiind!! And you don’t want to see yourself in half your wedding photos fighting with your hair (and likely losing, with smeared lipstick to prove it). I also love putting a new spin on the tiara, by wearing it low, and on the backside of the head. There is already the perfect amount of drama going on in the front, what with the intricate beading on the dress, the bold lips, and dangling emeralds, so adding a whimsical touch of shimmer in the back of your hair is absolute perfection, and such a fresh idea – love it.

Below, is a simple tutorial for you to achieve this exact hair style, if you’d like to try it on your own, first:

Before adding the hair piece, slick your hair back into a high ponytail, use a teasing/bristle brush to get the bumps smoothed out. I would also recommend using a spray wax like this one here. When you’re finding a hairpiece to complete this look, don’t forget to choose one that matches your hair color!

Now on to your makeup… I think you can go a little bold since this is an evening wedding. I chose Smashbox “Be Legendary,” lipstick to add some drama to your lips! This color will complement the deep tones of your ultra-glam clutch, along with those stunning earrings. Since you have such a saturated color on your lips, I stuck with a soft, brown, smokey-eye. There is no need to over power what you already have going on, so we just want to enhance your eyes in a soft, lovely way. Here is a great picture tutorial for a smokey eye, if you’d like try it!

It’s always a great idea to do several “trial runs” with your hair and makeup well before your Big Day, so you have a perfect idea of what will look best, and what makes you feel most comfortable. You can always make an appointment to do this with your stylist in-person, or anytime online, here at SMP!

Best wishes for your Big Day! Cheers!

Amazing blog! Do you have any helpful hints for aspiring writers?
I’m planning to start my own site soon but I’m
a little lost on everything. Would you suggest starting with a free platform like WordPress or go for a paid option? There
are so many choices out there that I’m totally confused ..

    Any ideas? Many thanks!
