Stripes on Stripes

Typically, when it comes to summer, I’m a minimalist. I wear nothing extraneous, nothing superfluous. One tank, floaty and sheer, one worn-in pair of shorts (rarely pants – I have a pretty strict no-pants rule in the summer), and perhaps one long chain necklace. But like anyone who gets stuck in a routine, my go-to ensemble seemed un-exciting this week. Usually, I feel chic and light in these stripped-down looks, but yesterday, it just wasn’t lighting a fashion spark for me.

So what does any good stylist do when she wants some outfit interest? Two words: LAYER UP! I always opt for a vest in the summer because anything else feels like a wool sweater.  So why couldn’t a shirt dress double as a vest? Trick question, because the answer is it COULD double as a vest. Contrasting between long and short, with the broken-in cotton catching the wind, made me feel like a) I was wearing a cape and b) I was rocking a pretty fresh look. Mixing up the prints just came naturally, too.

My new July look is stripes on stripes on stripes, all tied up in a bright bandana.

 Wearing:

Dress as a vest – Old Navy (similar). Tank – Old Navy. Shorts – Not kidding, Old Navy. Bandana – Gifted, but this is on my want list.

PS. Coincidentally, this entire look it brought to you by Old Navy.
