Not-So-Mumsy Mum Suits

“Some people are cuter than us.” This is what my 7-year-old daughter stated flatly to me the other day, with a big ol’ question in her eyes. It came out of nowhere, and caught me by surprise. The way she said it, sounded like she was internalizing this new idea that she was somehow not special. She sounded defeated, and my mama ears and heart perked up and zeroed in on this. I’m ashamed to admit that I really hadn’t put much thought into addressing beauty, regarding the tortuous game of comparison, with my kiddos (major mom fail, I know), but my answer, and the conviction with which I said it, surprised me. I immediately answered, “There’s no such thing.” And I meant it, but not in an egotistical way. I went on to say that God created each of us in His own unique way, and that none of us were the same, and all of us were so precious and beautiful to Him because we are all “fearfully and wonderfully made” (Psalm 139:14). And if all are precious and beautiful in God’s sight, comparison should not exist. I told her that we need to choose to see others the same way that God sees us, and when we do that, nobody is “cuter,” nobody is “prettier;” we’re all beautiful in our own unique way – just the way God designed us.

Anyway, I thought it a timely topic to share with you, as swimsuit season upon us…. ha! Aaaand I am wearing a swimsuit for the first time ever in a blog post…. 😉

So, mum suits. I don’t know about you, but wearing a bikini, while running around with my little ones, sounds like a crazy show that no one wants tickets to. I’ll throw on a bikini when the situation warrants (and depending on how confident I’m feeling about my stretch marks), but I definitely feel most comfortable playing around with my family in a secure one piece. Pictured below is one that I love because it has the look and feel of a tank top (I only have one full photo of it because the wind was freeeezing!!!). The one I’m wearing is sold out, but at the end of this post, I’ve shopped a variety of super cute, practical, and also some not-so-mumsy ones, for those of you that are planning to rock a serious one-piece game this summer. :)

That wind kept blowing my hat off! I really wasn’t trying to be all posey-posey with it, promise 😉 Just trying to hide my sea-sand mess of hair!

I hope you have a lovely day, Beautiful. Have fun shopping – I also shopped some fun beach towels :)
